Introduction

My Tool Chest almost got the day off, but was called into service to help track done the equestrian term at 16d. I also had to verify that the fish at 5a truly exists.

1a   Drug seller's cut cocaine hits me badly (7)

The phrase "cut cocaine" apparently signifies the first letter of "C(ocaine)". I suppose one could interpret this to mean either cut off the first letter and use it or cut off and discard all but the first letter. In any event, such clueing seems rather superfluous as the big red Chambers (The Chambers Dictionary, 11th Edition) lists C as an abbreviation for cocaine.
