Signing off for this week — Falcon
Good morning,
ReplyDeleteWell, the snow has arrived. Or is arriving. This was a pleasant diversion from the nasty cold white stuff. 16d was obvious from the wordplay but I had to look it up because it's a new word for me. Have a good weekend!
Peter
stuck on 13a Help.
ReplyDeleteOtherwise Fun. Waiting for our share of the white stuff
16d English slang
Yiddish actually
DeleteCan't get 13a. What's the definition?
ReplyDeleteOtherwise, C&R are playing a fairly routine game with us today. 23 a was solved via search for a "list of x". 9a was clever with what appeared to be an anagram indicator (which fit with my existing cross letters) that turned out to be a homophone.
The last letter of 1d should be a ‘y’. That will get you 13a. I had the same mistake.
ReplyDeleteThat did it! Def is "opened wide"
DeleteGot 13a. Had 1d wrong last letter.
ReplyDeleteHi everyone! I was up at Collingwood this weekend - not only was there lot's of snow, but the Wifi connection wouldn't let me post any comments, so now I'm home and blogging away!
ReplyDeleteI think I wouldn't have figured out 1d any quicker than the rest, I had the same error that other people reported, ending in 'Y' just didn't come to mind!
Thanks for the post, Falcon. Just 4.5 weeks to go!
I'll post the solution in just a little while.
Here is the solution to this week’s puzzle from Cox&Rathvon. I call this one “His and Her Animal Games” from all the references to males and females, and horses, cows, birds, and of course, the long list of games mentioned.
ReplyDelete1d was especially tricky as you had to be very careful with the case of the solution to match what was in the puzzle. Kudos to those that spotted what 1d was supposed to be.

Had trouble with 13a as I had it starting with an E not a Y because of 1d which I thought was treble, not trebly. Trebly - really?!!! Didn't know there was such a word, but did find it in the dictionary, but who uses that word??? Got a smile from 16d and 20d.
