Introduction

The review of today's National Post Cryptic Crossword from Cox & Rathvon (NP 220618) comes to you from southern Manitoba where I am visiting family. I'm about an hour south of Senf in Winnipeg and possibly a couple of degrees hotter (the temperature reached 37 C here today).

The puzzle will be posted on the blog on Saturday, June 25.

I invite you to leave a comment to let us know how you fared with the puzzle.

  1. Hello from NYC where yesterday the temperatures were in the 90s and tonight they’re predicted to drop to the 50s. I guess it’s not quite summer yet.
I kept hearing a Ring-a-Ding as I worked through this one. Nicely done C&R.
LOI was 4d because I had to correct spelling of 9a.
19d has to be a favorite for any cryptic solver, no?
Enjoyed the anagram/container combination of 3a. The anagram of 8d was ingenious. 7d was clever.
Have a good weekend and week ahead everyone. Falcon, thanks for your efforts every week.

  2. Good morning from a mini-heatwave in Winnipeg - a forecast of 27 degrees today, 36 tomorrow, and 29 on Monday.
Well, how many synonyms of ring (of a bell) can one cram into one crossword - I think today's answer is four.
    Appealing clues were 3a, 31a, 5d, 7d, and 18d.
Thanks to C&R for the fun and to Falcon for his usual sterling efforts.

  3. Hello Falcon and friends,

Lots of claps and clangs today! Fun puzzle. Thought 4d was cute and 25d made me nostalgic for one of my favourite cartoons growing up. Believe it or not, 19d was my LOI!

Thank you for posting Falcon. Have a nice cool weekend everyone!

    Cheers,
    MG

  5. Today's offering from C&R was sound as a bell. Although I did feel like MG's favourite (25d) quite a few times trying to decipher the clues. LOI was 3a as was trying to clear the ringing from my ears (I have tinnitus, which got worse after tackling this puzzle)/
Beautiful cool weather here in Mississuga. Enjoy the weekend everyone! Thanks Falcon and see you bext week.
