Errors That Weren't in Today's Puzzle

Let's make a third attempt to get the story straight. Earlier this morning, I wrote:

"Wow! I'm gobsmacked. The puzzle that appears in today's National Post is the corrected version found on the Telegraph Puzzles website rather than the version originally published in the print edition of The Daily Telegraph!"

This after having warned readers last evening to expect errors in today's puzzle.

Well, the puzzle that appears in the National Post today is, in fact, the puzzle that was published in the print edition of The Daily Telegraph. It seems that some clues in the puzzle were modified during the editing process with the final correct version being published in the print edition of the paper. However, an earlier incorrect draft was initially posted on the Telegraph Puzzles website. The puzzle on the website was eventually revised to correspond to the version in the newspaper.

So the laws of the universe have not changed, after all!

Invariably, any errors that appear in the original puzzle in the UK also are present in the version published by the National Post. That is, the version appearing in the National Post is identical to the version published in the print edition of The Daily Telegraph.

The clues in question are 13a, 20a and 2d. The incorrect and correct clues are listed below.

Incorrect: 13a Trembling, from mum: 'I'm engaged?' (9)

Correct: 13a Trembling, chant about winter in Paris (9)

Incorrect: 20a Style of music Callas is performing (9)

Correct: 20a Style of music in clubs Callas is performing (9)

Incorrect: 2d Threatened strike that comes to nothing? (5)

Correct: 2d On the radio, feeble pretence (5)

Signing off for the moment — Falcon
