Good morning,
ReplyDeleteLoved it. Most enjoyable offering from C & R today. Have a good weekend!
Peter
Happy Day of Love and Affection to all! No difficulty in ascertaining the theme today, even though it is close to being a week away.
ReplyDeleteBut maybe C&R are asking us to be cautious with 16d and 8d as follows ups after an affair?
Last one in was 21d mostly because I started at the top and ended at the bottom. And favourite? Who could argue with 16a?
Solution will be posted later.
And thanks for the posting, Falcon!
Henry
And 4d, 6d and 7d harken back to 1929!
ReplyDeleteChuckled at 4d.
Quite enjoyable.
Thanks all.
Whenever I see "at first," I know I am going to have a problem. And it's no different today. It's the only clue I cannot get even though I seem to have all but two of the boxes filled in. Feel so stupid!
ReplyDeleteHi Sydney,
DeleteAre you referring to 5d? If so, you need a five letter word for a red-breasted bird (one whose return heralds the beginning of spring time in Ontario) plus the first letter of gravy to get a word that means "dressing".
Oh, for gosh sakes. Thanks Peter. Now I really DO feel stupid.
ReplyDeleteNot sure what happened to Henry. Here's my attempt at the solution:

I was out of town for most of the week-end, and was just about to type up the solution - I guess now I won't have to!
DeleteHow about we call this puzzle "The St. Valentine's Day Massacre". I know Falcon doesn't like to have solutions appear blatantly in the title, but maybe this week he'll cut us some slack with the references to gangsters this week (4d, 7d, and maybe Italians 9a),
If (just in case) anybody wants to see a more detailed solution, just, post a note. Otherwise, thanks Peter!
Or...
Delete"The Valentine's Day Massacre"
